Well, we can finally put Ferdy Druijf’s name to bed once and for all.

Preston looked to sign Druijf in the summer transfer window, turning their attention to to the Dutchman in late August.

North End looked to lure Druijf from AZ Alkmaar to Deepdale, but missed out on a deal as he chose to stay with the Eredivisie side instead.

Preston ended up signing Emil Riis from Randers to bolster their attack, and Druijf may have regretted his decision based on how his season has gone.

Druijf didn’t start a single league game for AZ this term, playing just 111 minutes in the Eredivisie, scoring only one goal.

The 22-year-old admitted just days ago that he wants to ‘play somewhere else’, quickly realising that he isn’t going to play as much as he wants at AZ.

Some Preston fans may have fancied seeing him finally come in, but that won’t be happening as a move to Belgium is about to be confirmed.

Voetbal International report that Druijf is set to join KV Mechelen – who currently sit 14th in Belgium’s top flight – on loan until the end of the season.

Let’s see if Druijf can get back on track with this move to Belgium, and whether he can prove that Preston really missed out.
