Frankie McAvoy admits he wishes Kieffer Moore was at Preston

The name Kieffer Moore will absolutely live long on the list of ‘players Preston could have signed’; fans don’t tend to forget that kind of stuff.

Nicky Forster, Taylor Twellman, Tendayi Darikwa… there are many names Preston fans will remember for North End missing out on deals.

Moore is another one.

Preston wanted to sign Moore in 2018, with Alex Neil seeing him as the ideal replacement for Jordan Hugill following his move to West Ham United.

The story goes that North End had roughly agreed terms with Barnsley to sign Moore, but the Tykes increased their demands and Preston backed away.

That has never been confirmed, though Peter Ridsdale did indicate this story in September 2018.

Moore scored 17 times for Barnsley the following season, earning a big move to Wigan Athletic. After 10 goals in 36 games there, he joined Cardiff City.

Now a Welsh international regular, the giant striker hit 20 goals last season and is considered to be one of the most dangerous strikers in the Championship.

Moore was a big miss for Preston and would completely change the fortunes of the club now – something boss Frankie McAvoy knows.

McAvoy worked with Neil at Preston so will know just how much his fellow Scot wanted Moore at Deepdale.

At a fan forum last week, McAvoy was asked which Championship player he would most want at Preston – and he picked Moore.

Sadly, that ship has long, long sailed for North End.
