Preston may be hoping for a new striker to arrive this summer, but Emil Riis will be looking to repay the transfer fee paid for him last summer.
North End were in the same position last season; a decent squad that needed a striker to really push forward in the Championship table.
A deal came out of nowhere in September 2020, as Preston raided Danish side Randers with a deal to sign Emil Riis.

Formerly of Derby County, Riis arrived for £1.2million in a real departure from North End’s usual recruitment – they actually struck a deal with a foreign club.
Riis blew hot and cold last season. He was outstanding in away games at Huddersfield Town and Reading, but one key miss at Barnsley back in December seemed to really dent his confidence.
Quick and able to go past a man, Riis has bags of talent but hasn’t quite put it all together yet, and needs to become a little sharper in front of goal if he is to justify that price tag.

Riis should start Preston’s first game of the season against Hull City, and Frankie McAvoy has offered encouragement about his prospects this term.
Speaking to Sky Sports, McAvoy has stated that Riis ‘is confident and looking to do well after losing his way a bit’, believing he can get back on track this term.
All the talk is of a new striker coming in, but Riis has the talent too how that Preston don’t need to look elsewhere this month.
