Preston North End have snapped up Liam Millar from Basel and the winger has received a message of support from Iain Hume.

PNE were busy on deadline day with two major additions arriving to bolster Ryan Lowe’s squad.

The big-money arrival was Milutin Osmajic as the Montenegro international came in from Cadiz in what appears to be a club-record deal.

PNE followed that up with the signing of winger Liam Millar, taking him on loan from Basel until the end of the season.

North End haven’t confirmed a permanent option in the deal but Ryan Lowe suggested there should be some kind of agreement in the loan which could see Millar stay at Deepdale.

Formerly of Liverpool as a kid, Millar was sold to Basel in 2013.

The 23-year-old racked up 98 games for Basel, notching 13 goals and 10 assists in that time.

A versatile player who can play up front, out wide or possibly even as a wing back if needed, Millar brings real tactical flexibility for Ryan Lowe.

This looks like an exciting move for PNE and Millar has now taken to Instagram to celebrate his late move to Deepdale.

Millar has admitted that he is ‘buzzing’ to have joined North End and can’t wait to get going in a PNE shirt after the international break.

Millar now joins Iain Hume as a Canadian to turn out for PNE and seeing him have Hume-like impact would be great.

Hume arrived at Deepdale back in 2010, initially joining on loan from Barnsley before turning his move permanent.

22 goals in his first 60 games for PNE made Hume a fan favourite and is still well-liked at North End to this day.

Hume responded to Millar’s Instagram by congratulating him before calling North End a ‘great club’ and telling him to enjoy his time in Lancashire.

There were also messages of support from Canadian international teammates Sam Adekugbe, Theo Corbeanu, Kamal Miller, Jonathan Osorio, Junior Hoilett, Steven Vitoria and Jayden Nelson with Millar receiving plenty of support after joining PNE.
