Preston have this afternoon confirmed a new friendly date, taking on Manchester United on July 31st.

The Red Devils had a gap in their pre-season schedule after their plans to head over to Malta for a friendly were scrapped.

Rumours have suggested that Preston would be the replacement, and that is now the case with a 2pm kickoff scheduled for July 31st, just a week before North End’s league season starts.

Recent Preston v Manchester United clashes

The last time Preston faced United in a pre-season friendly was way back in 2006, with Paul Simpson taking charge of that game.

North End ran out 2-1 winners at Deepdale, with Danny Pugh and Simon Whaley both on the scoresheet.

Preston did also host United in the FA Cup back in 2015, taking the lead through Scott Laird before United roared back to claim a 3-1 win.

United’s big guns could head to Deepdale

The game comes just a fortnight before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men kick off their Premier League season, so the big guns will surely play a part in the game.

Euro 2020 players like Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw will all be looking for minutes ahead of the Premier League campaign.

We may also see Jadon Sancho in action, with the England ace set to complete his move from Borussia Dortmund to Old Trafford.

Ticket details will be released in the next 48 hours, giving Preston fans the first chance to visit Deepdale since the pandemic began almost 18 months ago.
