Preston picked up a crucial win on Wednesday night, beating Birmingham City 1-0 at St Andrew’s.

North End had started 2021 poorly with three defeats in all competitions, but Scott Sinclair grabbed a second-half winner to secure all three points against the Blues.

One of the keys to the win was the performance of midfielder Jayson Molumby, who was tireless in the middle of the park.

The 21-year-old, who arrived on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this month, was a driving force throughout – and that was on show for the winning goal.

Molumby’s burst through midfield and perfectly-timed pass allowed the opening for Sinclair to score, and fans will be hoping to see more of that quality.

Speaking after the final whistle at Birmingham, Molumby told Preston’s official website that boss Alex Neil convinced him of how hard-working the rest of the squad were before he decided to join.

Molumby admitted that the Preston squad proved Neil right with a battling display against Birmingham, and it looks like the Irishman fits in perfectly.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Molumby. “The boys, before I came here, the gaffer told me what they’re about, and they’re a hard-working group of lads and they showed it tonight. I think everyone to a man dug deep and we deserved to win in the end,” he added.
