Preston picked up a big victory on Monday afternoon, beating Swansea City 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium with a last-gasp winner.
A Matt Grimes own goal in injury time handed Preston all three points, and it was much-deserved after a fine performance from Frankie McAvoy’s side.
There were a number of standout performers; Ched Evans and Emil Riis led the line well, Brad Potts was a threat breaking forward, Ryan Ledson and Ben Whiteman controlled the midfield and Sepp van den Berg was a welcome surprise at right wing back.
Yet one performance may have slipped under the radar as Jordan Storey actually set a new Championship season record with a superb showing.
As noted by WhoScored, Storey racked up nine interceptions against Swansea on his way to helping North End claim a clean sheet.
No player has recorded more interceptions in a single Championship game this season, with Storey setting a new 2020-21 record.
The £750,000 signing from Exeter city in 2018 has gone through peaks and troughs this season, sometimes showing some naivety and sometimes looking like a talent to build around.
Storey seems to fit well on the right of a back three, operating well down the sides whilst not being quite as exposed as in a back four.
North End have to be pleased that Storey racked up so many interceptions in one game, and if setting this new record doesn’t bolster the 23-year-old’s confidence, nothing will!
