Preston’s unbeaten run extended to nine games on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw at home to Bristol City.

North End went into the game knowing a win would close the gap to the play-off places, with City in sixth spot. It proved to be a tight game at Deepdale, with a draw probably a fair result.

Daniel Johnson’s opener was cancelled out by a Famara Diedhiou equaliser for the Robins in the second half. The draw means North End remain six points off the play-offs, with a top six finish fading slightly.

The game also saw one Robins ace return to Deepdale, with Josh Brownhill playing the full 90 minutes in midfield.

Brownhill came through the Preston ranks after being released by Manchester United in 2012, making a real splash early on before falling out of favour under Simon Grayson. When his contract ended in 2016, he chose to move on and join Bristol City.

Now a consistent Championship performer, Brownhill is a key player under Lee Johnson. He does feel like one that got away for North End, even with such a strong midfield already.

After Saturday’s game, Brownhill took to Twitter to praise the Bristol City fans and celebrate a well-earned point. He also sent a message to the Preston fans, thanking them for the reception he received at full time.

At least it seems that there’s no animosity between Preston fans and Brownhill. The same may not be said of his Bristol City teammate Bailey Wright though…
