The January transfer window has only been open for 13 hours, but Preston have already tied up their first signing.

It’s no great shock that North End have been quick off the mark, as a bizarre spate of injuries means signings are desperately needed.

A winger has been a particular need, with Callum Robinson, Billy Bodin and Brandon Barker all out injured right now.

For more than a week now, Walsall’s Josh Ginnelly has been linked with a move to Deepdale, even being left out of games ahead of his move.

Today, North End confirmed a deal for Ginnelly, handing him a two-and-a-half year deal at Deepdale.

Ginnelly immediately took to Twitter to react to his move, admitting it’s a ‘dream come true’ to sign for such a big club.

Ginnelly has to wait for his debut though. He can’t play in today’s game against Rotherham due to registration rules, and is cup-tied for Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Doncaster Rovers.

A debut against Swansea City on January 12th may therefore be in order, giving him time to train with his new teammates.

Ginnelly, 21, has hit four goals for Walsall following a summer move from Burnley, and is predominantly a left winger.
