Preston played out a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa this afternoon, and appear to have a first January signing on the way.

North End are down to the bare bones and need signings through the door quickly during the upcoming transfer window.

A winger is absolutely paramount. Callum Robinson and Billy Bodin both have long-term injuries, whilst Brandon Barker is also out.

Bringing in another wide man appears to be a priority, and Walsall’s Josh Ginnelly has been a target over the last week.

Ginnelly has missed Walsall’s last three games in preparation for joining North End, including against Luton Town today.

Walsall boss Dean Keates has now confirmed to The Express and Star that Preston have wrapped up Ginnelly’s signature.

It’s been highlighted, he’s not been involved in the squad in the last few weeks. We’ve had a concrete bid, it’s all been accepted, everything’s in place and he will join the club he is going to, as of the first of January.

Ginnelly won’t be available to face Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup next weekend, having already played in the competition for the Saddlers.

Formerly of Burnley, the 21-year-old has hit four goals this season, impressing since his summer arrival.

Out of contract at the end of the season, Ginnelly is expected to be another bargain basement signing for North End.
