Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp that he thinks Sepp van den Berg is in exactly the right place by being on loan with Preston North End again.
Klopp brings his Liverpool side to Deepdale tonight as Preston host the Reds in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.
A number of Liverpool youngsters could feature, including defender Van den Berg – though he will be lining up for Preston.
Van den Berg is on loan at Preston for the full season this term, having spent the second half of last season on loan with North End too.
Sent to Deepdale as part of the deal that took Ben Davies to Anfield, Van den Berg has become a fan favourite at Preston.
Despite being a centre back by trade, the 19-year-old is a regular starter at right wing back to North End.
Liverpool have now given Van den Berg permission to play against them tonight, and he will likely start.
Liverpool boss Klopp has now told Preston’s special edition of The Weekend Warm Up that he thinks Van den Berg is in the right place.
Klopp understands that Van den Berg impressed last season and wanted to come back to Preston, so it was perfect for all.
Klopp added that Preston may need to defend a lot this season, so that’s great for Van den Berg’s development moving forward, with North End struggling this term.
“In this case, in the first moment you assume it will be the right club, but then the player goes there, then he comes back and in the moment when they – Preston in this case – ask ‘can we have him again on loan?’ and the players says ‘oh yeah I would love to do that’ then you know it’s the right place,” said Klopp.
“Preston, it’s not the best of all seasons, let me say like this. I think in the end they will fight to stay in the league, but that’s pretty normal in the Championship. They have to defend a lot, Sepp is a defender, so it’s a win-win situation,” he added.
