In pre season this summer, the younger players among the Preston North End squad were making up the bulk of the team. They were certainly outshining the senior players as well.
In the first few league games there were some fresh faces on the bench with the senior players either injured or yet to be signed.
Kian Best started the first four league games and looks a great talent. Noah Mawene made a substitutes appearance against Sheffield Wednesday. Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile has been a regular on the bench too.
Whilst Kian Taylor, Josh Seary and Lewis Leigh all started the cup game against Salford City.
Leigh recently joined Conference National side Bromley, who are managed by Freddie Woodman’s father; Andy.
It is Leigh’s first spell away from Preston and he has played the last three games for Bromley. They are currently eleven games unbeaten and are sitting in fourth place in the fifth tier of English football.
Leigh, playing in centre midfield has been impressing fans of the club and it was his corner that Byron Webster headed in to give Bromley a 2-1 lead against Gateshead that was extended to 3-1 in the 99th minute.
Unfortunately for Leigh, he was shown two yellow cards and will miss the next fixture. He had been given his first for alleged time wasting on another corner, whilst a lot of the fans were confused by the second yellow in the 97th minute.
Hopefully Leigh will be straight back in the side when available as early form suggests Bromley are set for a great season.
Leigh who made his league debut for The Lilywhites as a late sub against Sheffield United last season, is only 19 years-old but this loan spell will be hugely beneficial for him.
He has plenty of players ahead of him in the pecking order at North End but like others he’s got the opportunity to play first team football elsewhere.
Finlay Cross-Adair is currently on loan with Annan Athletic in the Scottish League One and has scored one goal in five.
Mikey O’Neill is on loan at Southport in the Conference North and has played three games so far.
Kitt Nelson also recently joined Workington Town, in the Northern Premier League and came off the bench to score the winner on his debut against FC United of Manchester.
