Preston North End’s loan signings in the last few years have been a bit hit and miss.
For every Aiden McGeady there has been an Andre Green.
In the 2018/19 season there was a striker who divided the fans a little bit. Lukas Nmecha clearly had the talent but he also still had a lot to learn. The Championship was a learning curve for him but it isn’t a surprise to see him go on to better things.

Further loan spells followed at Wolfsburg and Middlesbrough last season, but this term he has really found his feet at Anderlecht playing under former Manchester City teammate Vincent Kompany. He’s scored 18 goals in 37 games for the Belgian side and his father has said that there are Premier League and Bundesliga clubs interested in signing him permanently.
Although Sergio Aguero is leaving, it looks unlikely he will get a chance at City. Speaking to HLN, Nmecha’s father said “As far as I am concerned, it would certainly be smart to stay with Anderlecht, but the decision does not only lie with Lukas. We shall see. There is a lot of interest from the Bundesliga and the Premier League, City wants to sell Nmecha as expensive as possible.”

Nmecha has also managed 10 goals in just 17 Germany Under 21 games. He will have appreciated his time at Deepdale; adapting to the senior game and playing in such a competitive league. He had some great performances for The Lilywhites after taking some time to settle, and he notably provided a great assist for a Daniel Johnson winner away to Blackburn Rovers.
City look set to cash in on him this summer, and he’ll be a name we’ll hear plenty more of over the next few years.
