Preston had a look into the possibility of signing utility man Luke O’Nien, but he has now decided to stay at Sunderland.
North End had been searching for a new right back option, and O’Nien emerged as a versatile option who could fit the bill.
Lancs Live noted that O’Nien was on the radar for Preston, but then updated the situation to state that North End had backed away.

O’Nien, 26, was a midfielder at Wycombe Wanderers but also featured at right back, right wing back and even centre back during his time with Sunderland.
With his contract expiring this summer, O’Nien could have been a bargain addition for Preston, but they decided to look elsewhere.
Matthew Olosunde has arrived on a free transfer from Rotherham United last week, solving Preston’s right back issue and ruling out a move for O’Nien once and for all.
Today, O’Nien has made a firm decision on his future by signing a new three-year deal with Sunderland, much to the delight of Black Cats fans.
You can effectively rule out O’Nien ever coming to Preston now, as if a move was ever going to happen, it would have surely been this summer given his availability as a free agent.
