Preston are chasing Alvaro Fernandez after the Manchester United talent visited Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.
North End have added one left wing back option this summer by landing Robbie Brady on a free transfer.
Ryan Lowe has still been adamant that other left wing back is needed this summer in order to add quality competition for places.
Brady’s injury history is less-than-ideal and with a condensed schedule due to the World Cup later this year, North End need to have quality cover and competition.
Brady may not quite be able to handle three games in a week so there is a great opportunity for somebody to come in and compete with the Irishman.
It now looks like one of North End’s key targets is United talent Fernandez.
The Spaniard was spotted talking to both Ryan Lowe and Peter Ridsdale on the pitch before Saturday’s friendly against Leicester City.
Fernandez then watched the game from the Invincibles Pavilion with United development coach Paul McShane also in attendance.
This has excited Preston fans, who believe that this means a deal for Fernandez is pretty much done given his visit to Deepdale.

However, the Manchester Evening News report that no deal is agreed and Fernandez was simply assessing one of many potential loan options.
It’s added that Premier League clubs are also keen on Fernandez but talks have been held with North End.
Fernandez, 19, was previously in the Real Madrid ranks before joining United back in 2020.
The Spaniard was outstanding last season as he won United Under-23 Player of the Year award.
A left wing back with four goals and six assists in all competitions last season, Fernandez has a great frame at 6ft 1in tall but loves to get forward and take players on.
Fernandez ticks the boxes North End are looking for, and we now have to hope; hope that Fernandez liked what he saw today, fancies the challenge with Brady and snubs Premier League interest.
