Archer becomes Ryan Lowe’s first signing for the club, and he joins from a side managed by one of his close friends, Steven Gerrard. If this loan goes well, we may see this link between the two clubs blossom further.
The 20-year-old is highly rated at Villa and recently signed a contract until 2025. This move will help his development, and he will be hoping to score some goals and eventually break into the first team at the Premier League club.
Archer has already impressed with some cameos in the top flight, but his highlights this season have come in the cup competitions.
Archer has scored four goals in the EFL Trophy for the Villa Under 23’s and he also scored a goal against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup in a tie which they went on to lose on penalties.
His highlight from the season though undoubtedly came in his first start for the club which was against Barrow in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Archer scored a hat-trick which you can see below in their 6-0 win. He scored, the first, fourth and sixth goals, and hopefully North End fans can see his finishing skills very soon.
This isn’t Archer’s first spell on loan away from the Midlands club. He played for Solihull Moors last season, scoring six goals for the National League side.
The Championship is a huge step up from that, but he certainly looks like an exciting prospect that will offer something very different to Preston’s current crop of strikers.
With Lowe liking to play with two up front, Archer will be able to have Emil Riis and Ched Evans for support up there, and he should be able to have a bit of space to play in.
Archer will need the rest of the team to help create some chances to help him out though, which will hopefully come at Preston.
