Whilst it seems unlikely, some Preston fans are holding out hope of a Lukas Nmecha return.
North End took Nmecha on loan back in August, landing something of a coup. The forward had been highly-rated at Manchester City, and they wanted to get their young talent playing regularly.
Some had hopes of a Tammy Abraham-like impact for Nmecha, but that didn’t happen. In fact, Nmecha only managed to score three times. However, he did notch eight assists, particularly impressing out wide.
The 20-year-old was one of North End’s better players in the second half of the season, making real strides forward. Nmecha is likely to go out on loan again this summer, but a Deepdale return doesn’t seem to be on the cards.

That’s a real shame, as Nmecha with a full season of Championship experience under his belt could be a real asset. Sadly, it seems that City have grander plans for Nmecha.

Kicker in Germany report that Borussia Monchengladbach are keen on Nmecha, potentially taking him on loan. With Thorgan Hazard gone to Borussia Dortmund, Nmecha could feature in their attack.
Gladbach will be a Europa League side next season, so a move would represent a real step up for Nmecha. Add in that he’d be able to play in Germany – having recently switched his international allegiance to play for Die Mannschaft – and a move to the Bundesliga makes sense.
Preston fans will surely wish Nmecha well, even those who weren’t impressed. With Europa League football potentially on the horizon, Nmecha’s career could be about to take a huge step forward.
