Preston North End have confirmed Frankie McAvoy has left the club.
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers was the final straw as North End have now made their move.
McAvoy’s job was in real danger for a while now. The 2-0 defeat at Blackpool in October was a major concern, and performances have been flat all season.
With crowds dwindling and positive results looking like good fortune rather than down to tactical nous.
McAvoy leaves Preston after four-and-a-half years at Deepdale.
The Scot followed Alex Neil to Deepdale having worked together at Norwich City.
When Neil left in March, McAvoy stepped up as interim boss. Positive results saw McAvoy land the job on a permanent basis.

McAvoy hasn’t quite connected with Preston fans and this decision has seemed like a long time coming.
There has been no announcement on an interim replacement, meaning Preston may already know the identity of their next boss.
We thank Frankie for his efforts at Preston, but have to feel that this is the right decision.
North End have lacked an identity this season and six wins in 21 isn’t good enough. We can only hope that this next managerial decision proves to be the right one.
