Preston have confirmed a huge piece of news this evening – and it doesn’t concern the signing of Ben Whiteman.
North End have secured the services of club captain Alan Browne for another three-and-a-half years, alleviating fears over his future.
Ben Davies, Darnell Fisher, Ben Pearson, Daniel Johnson and Browne all entered the January window approaching the final months of their contracts.
They were subsequently able to talk to non-English clubs about pre-contract agreements, with the threat of all five leaving for nothing looming over North End.

Now though, Browne has committed his future to Preston until 2024, meaning he will have been at the club for more than 10 years if he makes it to that point.

A £10,000 signing from Cork City in January 2014, the 25-year-old is now on his way to 300 appearances for Preston, and may well go down as a club legend.
Browne’s commitment to North End has sparked delight in the Preston fanbase, and teammate Patrick Bauer seems pretty happy too.
Bauer has taken to Twitter to state that Browne’s decision to renew is ‘fantastic’, echoing the thoughts of Preston fans everywhere as the German looks forward to playing with Browne for years to come.
