Liam Millar went into the international break on a real high after his goal against Plymouth Argyle and the Preston North End winger is probably feeling even better now.

Millar fired PNE to victory against Argyle, scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory at Home Park.

The Basel loanee fired home at the back post to take his tally for the season to five goals alongside his five assists.

Millar has become a firm fan favourite at Deepdale and North End fans will be hoping and praying that he stays put beyond the end of the season.

The international break means that Millar has been away from Lancashire, as he has been involved in Canada’s preparations for a clash with Trinidad and Tobago.

The situation was simple; whoever came out victorious would land a spot in Copa America this summer, opening the tournament against world champions Argentina.

Liam Millar and Canada find out Copa America fate

Played at a neutral venue in Texas, Canada were heavy favourites but were made to wait until 61 minutes to get the opening goal of the game.

Mallorca’s Cyle Larin opened the scoring before Jacob Shaffelburg added a second in injury time, booking Canada’s ticket to Copa. America.

Now placed into a group alongside Argentina, Peru and Chile, Canada look to be set for a difficult but exciting summer ahead.

Millar will be buzzing; Canada have another chance to shine at a major tournament having won a few hearts – albeit with no points – at the World Cup in Qatar.

On the other hand, Millar may be a little frustrated as he didn’t even get off the bench during Saturday’s victory.

Boss Mauro Biello went with a 3-4-1-2 system against Trinidad and Tobago, a system Millar knows very well from his time at PNE this season.

The problem is that Canada have a genuine superstar for the left wing back position in Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

Add in that Inter Milan’s Tajon Buchanan occupies the right side and it’s difficult for Millar to get many minutes in this Canadian side.

This trip to Texas hasn’t been wasted for Millar; he has been part of the preparations and celebrations for Canada and he will surely be cementing his position in the squad for Copa America.

North End will probably be a little relieved that Millar didn’t play, protecting him from injury ahead of Friday’s clash with Rotherham United.

Millar will now head back to the UK as Canada don’t have another fixture in this international break, giving the wide man plenty of time to travel home and get back down to business with PNE.
