Frankie McAvoy only lost his job as Preston boss last month but he already looks set for a return to football with Heart of Midlothian.
North End decided to part ways with McAvoy early in December, replacing him with Ryan Lowe in rapid fashion.
McAvoy had been coaching at Preston alongside Alex Neil, having previously worked together at Hamilton Academical and Norwich City.
When Neil lost his job at Preston last year, McAvoy took the reins until the end of the season – and strong form then saw him become manager full-time.
McAvoy’s permanent spell wasn’t quite as good as the interim stint, and a 1-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers proved to be the end for him.
The 54-year-old’s full record at Preston was 14 wins, nine draws and 10 defeats, which on paper isn’t all that bad for a first-time manager.
Some wondered just where McAvoy would end up after leaving Preston, and it looks like he’s back off to Scotland.
The Edinburgh Evening News report that McAvoy poised to join Heart of Midlothian.

McAvoy would become the new youth academy director at Hearts, replacing Roger Arnott after his exit last week.
This move makes total sense; Hearts sporting director Joe Savage worked with McAvoy at Hamilton, Norwich and Preston.
McAvoy is understood to be ‘eager to return to football’ after leaving Preston and will now have the chance to coach up some of the top young talent at Hearts.
A quick appointment is expected, with McAvoy landing a new job less than two months after his Preston departure.
