Preston North End’s home game against Blackburn Rovers will take place as planned after Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men were beaten in the FA Cup.

Rovers were in FA Cup quarter-final action this afternoon as they headed to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United.

A place in a semi-final at Wembley Stadium was on offer and Rovers twice took the lead through Ben Brereton Diaz and Sammie Szmodics.

It wasn’t to be for Blackburn though as an injury-time screamer from Tommy Doyle secured the win for Sheffield United.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

This has an impact on PNE due to the date of the Championship clash with Rovers.

PNE are scheduled to take on Blackburn at Deepdale on April 22nd having already beaten Rovers 4-1 at Ewood Park in December.

That game would have been postponed had Rovers won today, with the FA Cup semi-finals set to take place on that same weekend.

Yet with Rovers beaten this afternoon, PNE’s home clash will be unchanged.

Rovers will be turning their attention solely to league action now with an FA Cup trip to Wembley now ruled out.

Rovers currently sit fifth in the Championship table and whilst an automatic promotion push is unlikely, a playoff place is well within reach.

The trip to Deepdale will be key for Rovers; the game comes with just four outings left in the season and points will be vital for Tomasson’s side.

PNE will have little to play for but fans will be expecting a derby day showing.

North End were battered by Rovers at home last season and Ryan Lowe can’t afford to have a similar thumping this time around.
