Alan Browne hails Preston new boy Robbie Brady as a 'class above'

Preston captain Alan Browne has praised Robbie Brady after his encouraging start to life as a North End player.

Ryan Lowe swooped to sign Brady on a free transfer after a brief trial spell with the club earlier this summer.

The Irishman was available on a free transfer having seen his Bournemouth contract come to an end.

Bournemouth had shown some interest in Brady but Preston were happy to swoop in and take him to Deepdale.

Few really doubted Brady’s ability; he has shown for many years that he has exceptional quality on his left foot and only dropped out of the Premier League last summer.

The fear Preston fans had was surrounding Brady’s injury record, given that he hasn’t played more than 20 league games in a season since the 2016-17 campaign.

Lowe had made it abundantly clear that he wanted robust players who could cope with the demands of a 46-game Championship season.

Whether Brady really fits that bill remains to be seen but he has certainly impressed fans so far.

Brady has been very good in pre-season games, showing the quality to cross from out wide whilst also playing quick, sharp passes into front players and even going in for full-blooded tackles.

Preston need to manage Brady carefully and ultimately need to find another left wing back to offer cover and competition for the 30-year-old.

North End supporters are loving Brady’s impact so far and Alan Browne has now joined in with the praise.

Browne already knew Brady from the Irish national team setup and will have known exactly what he is capable of producing.

Browne has now told Lancs Live that he thinks Brady is a ‘class above’ and should be playing in the Premier League.

The Preston captain noted the ‘random injuries’ that keep plaguing Brady but hopes he can avoid any further blows and become an important player for North End this season.

“(Brady) is a class above, yeah,” said Browne. “He is a Premiership player in my opinion and I am sure in a lot of other’s opinions as well.”

“We are lucky to have him – he’s had a tough time with random injuries but he’s looked sharp and we know what he is capable of already. I’ve obviously known him in the past but if we can keep him fit then he will definitely be an important player for us,” he added.
