According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Preston’s £300,000 bid for Accrington Stanley’s Callum Johnson has failed.

North End are in the market for a new right back this month, having seen Darnell Fisher struggle this season.

Preston have been closely watching Accrington this season having tied up a deal for goalkeeper Connor Ripley.

Ripley’s teammate Johnson appears to be the next target though, with the 22-year-old on North End’s radar.

It’s believed that Preston have offered £300,000 for Johnson, but Stanley have stood firm and rejected the bid.

North End could still return for Johnson, having seemingly been left impressed with his displays in League One this season.

Johnson came up through the Middlesbrough ranks alongside Ripley, and the pair have joined forces at Accrington.

After a strong loan spell with Stanley last season, Johnson joined the club permanently a year ago.

He now has 18 months left on his contract, and North End are seemingly attempting to strike a deal this month.
