Ryan Lowe’s verdict on Aston Villa talent Cameron Archer after Preston winner

Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe has again paid tribute to striker Cameron Archer after the loanee bagged the only goal against Hull City on Saturday.

North End were on the road again on Saturday, making the trip to the MKM Stadium to take on a resurgent Hull side in recent games.

Hull had won three games in a row before Saturday’s clash, including recent victories over promotion-chasing duo Blackburn Rovers and Bournemouth.

Preston weren’t about to join that list though and grabbed all three points thanks to a second-half strike from loanee Archer.

Hull turned the ball over in their own half, and Ben Whiteman immediately picked out an inch-perfect pass for Archer.

All alone and just about played onside, Archer took one touch before slamming a low finish into the corner of the net.

Brought in on loan from Aston Villa in January, Archer has already scored two goals in just four outings for Preston.

The 20-year-old is exactly what Preston wanted; an extra goal threat who offers something a little bit different to Emil Riis and Ched Evans.

After spending last season on loan at Solihull Moors in non-league, so maybe even Archer can’t quite believe how well he’s adjusted to Championship action!

Boss Lowe doesn’t seem surprised at all though, hailing Archer’s progression after another impressive display.

Lowe told iFollow that he thinks Archer is getting ‘better and fitter and stronger’ with every game he plays in the Championship.

Lowe praised Archer for his composure when presented with the game-winning chance, especially having seen the youngster rattle the woodwork in the first half.

“He’s getting better and fitter and stronger every game,” said Lowe. “When we got him in, I think I said he’s hardly played any games so we do have to make sure he’s right.”

“I thought his first one where the keeper has tipped it onto the post was a great effort, and then I think it was Ben Whiteman who has clipped the ball into him, great touch and the calm composure to put it into the bottom corner was fantastic.”

“I was a bit of a relief when I saw that go in because sometimes they go against you, sometimes they go for you, but it was a fantastic strike right into the bottom corner,” he added.
