Preston are expected to make a decision over trialist Bambo Diaby very soon – and the defender is seemingly anticipating a return to action.
North End took Diaby on trial in December, allowing him to train at the club’s Euxton training base.
Diaby is a free agent having been released by Barnsley back in October 2020 having been given a doping ban.
Diaby was banned for two years for testing positive for higenamine, with Diaby protesting his innocence throughout.
The ban was backdated, meaning Diaby is actually free to begin playing again on January 16th.
That’s less than a week away, and Preston will have seen enough of Diaby now to decide whether or not to offer a deal.
Diaby, 24, is quick and capable of bringing the ball out of defence, showing promising signs with Barnsley after a 2019 move from Lokeren.
Today, Diaby has taken to Instagram to post a cryptic message.
The defender took a photo with an hourglass emoji, hitting there could be big news on the horizon.
That may just be because Diaby is now inside the final week of his ban and can’t wait to get playing again.
But it may be in the knowledge that he will be joining Preston on a free transfer soon, with a final decision surely just days away.
Signing Diaby after so long out of the game is a gamble, especially after signing Izzy Brown and Connor Wickham backfired, but Diaby could be a diamond in the rough for North End.
