Ben Davies is finally set to play at Anfield tonight

Preston fans may well have a real interest in this game because of Rangers defender Ben Davies.

We saw Davies emerge as a first-team star at Preston having started out in the North End youth ranks.

From a miscast left back to an outstanding left-sided centre back, Davies became one of the best success stories out of the Preston youth setup.

We all expected a Premier League move but few thought Liverpool would be the ones to swoop in.

Liverpool struck on deadline day in February 2021, signing Davies in a bargain deal that included Sepp van den Berg heading to Preston on loan.

Few could begrudge Davies that dream to Anfield but the defender never made a first-team appearance for the Reds.

After a season-long loan spell at Sheffield United last term, Davies was finally sold this summer with Rangers snapping him up.

Davies has faced a battle to get fit but having started against Hearts on Saturday and got 45 minutes under his belt, he is now expected to start for Rangers tonight.

Davies was never able to land that Anfield debut as a Liverpool player but now has a golden chance to show Jurgen Klopp and co what they’re missing.

Preston fans will be wishing Davies all the best tonight and will ultimately feel a sense of pride at seeing one of our own walk out to that famous Champions League music.
