Andi Zeqiri snubbed Preston move last summer, now he could play against England tonight

Preston made a move to sign Andi Zeqiri back in August – and the striker could now feature for Switzerland against England tonight.

North End were desperate for attacking additions before the summer transfer window slammed shut.

Calls were made to Premier League clubs in search of a loan signing and asked Brighton and Hove Albion about two players.

The Lancashire Evening Post reported that Preston wanted to take Seagulls striker Zeqiri on loan, but he picked a move to Augsburg in Germany.

When Preston learned that Brighton were signing Abdallah Sima, they asked for him too – but he joined Stoke City.

In the end, Josh Murphy came in on loan from Cardiff City but has barely featured to Preston.

So how is Zeqiri faring?

Zeqiri has turned out 18 times for Augsburg this season but managed only two goals and one assist in the Bundesliga.

Zeqiri, 22, has yet to really show that he can be a regular goalscorer since joining Brighton and another loan this summer wouldn’t be a surprise.

With Preston not in action until next weekend due to the international break, North End fans may place a bigger focus on England.

England take on Switzerland tonight and that means Zeqiri may have a huge chance to showcase his quality in front of the country.

Zeqiri has been named in the Switzerland squad for this game and will battle with the likes of Breel Embolo and Mario Gavranovic for a starting role.

This season hasn’t gone to plan for Zeqiri, and you have to wonder how he’d have fared with Preston.

That could all change tonight though, with Zeqiri no doubt desperate to show what he can do back in England.
