Preston boss Ryan Lowe has backed striker Cameron Archer to keep firing after missing a huge opportunity against Nottingham Forest.

North End played out a 0-0 draw with Forest on Tuesday night despite looking like the better side throughout.

Preston created a number of fine openings but just didn’t have that killer moment to go and claim all three points.

There was one glaring chance in the second half though, with Cameron Archer played through on goal.

Brad Potts drove infield before threading the ball through for Archer, who was doing what he does best – hanging on the shoulder of the last defender.

Archer took one touch and fired his shot from around 12 yards. When Archer gets a chance, we’re so used to seeing the ball end up in the net.

Deepdale was almost in celebration before Archer had even taken his shot, but those premature cheers turned to stunned gasps.

Archer had slotted his finish wide of the post. Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath did a great job of giving Archer little to aim at, and his attempts to bend the ball inside the near post just failed.

The Aston Villa loanee has quickly become a fan favourite at Preston and he will absolutely have the full support of North End fans after that miss.

We know the next Archer goal is right around the corner, and Lowe has moved to back the striker.

Lowe has admitted that he has told Archer ‘not to worry’ about last night’s miss, hailing him as a ‘fantastic’ talent.

Lowe added that the chance was harder than it looked because of Horvath’s positioning, believing Archer will get back in the goals soon.
