Preston-mad Wade Barrett sends message to Aston Villa fans about Cameron Archer

Preston fans have a new hero in Aston Villa loanee Cameron Archer, even if this love affair may only last a few months.

North End snapped up Archer in January, taking him on loan from Villa until the end of the season.

Boss Ryan Lowe has a strong friendship with Villa boss Steven Gerrard and that ultimately helped Preston strike a deal.

Archer has made a huge impact already. In just three games for Preston, Archer has bagged three goals – all in away wins.

On Saturday, Archer won the game at Peterborough United by curling a late left-footed strike beyond Steven Benda and into the top corner.

North End’s 1-0 win keeps the playoff dream alive, and Archer will have a huge role to play if Preston are to gatecrash the top six.

The 20-year-old looks electric around the box, using his pace, movement and agility to give defenders nightmares.

Preston may still hold some hope of keeping Archer for next season too, but with each goal it becomes more and more likely that Aston Villa will want to keep him around.

North End fans had already fallen in love with two loanees in Daniel Iversen and Sepp van den Berg, now they have another with Archer.

One of Preston’s most famous fans is Stu Bennett, better known as Wade Barrett in WWE. Formerly a wrestler and now a commentator, Barrett hails from Penwortham and is a lifelong Preston fan.

Barrett took to Twitter on Saturday evening to send a message to Villa fans, simply telling them what a player Archer is after another Preston goal.

If Archer isn’t in Gerrard’s immediate plans for next season, expect Lowe to be calling Gerrard’s phone day and night to sort out a Preston return.
