Connor Ripley returns to Preston, but he'll surely never play for North End again

Preston North End goalkeeper Connor Ripley is back at Deepdale after his spell with League Two side Salford City came to an end.

Ripley moved on loan to Salford in mid-October, penning an emergency loan deal after an injury to Tom King.

That spell was extended, though Ripley did endure a nightmare own goal against Exeter City.

With nine appearances for Salford, Ripley filled in admirably for King.

Now though, Ripley is back at Preston after King made his return from injury at the weekend.

Ripley has at least put himself in the shop window with that loan spell, as his Preston future seems set in stone.

The 28-year-old isn’t in Preston’s Championship squad and that surely won’t change any time soon.

Daniel Iversen is one of the top goalkeepers in the division and Declan Rudd is quality backup.

Ripley just hasn’t lived up to his billing since arriving from Middlesbrough in 2019, playing just 10 games.

Ripley may be back at Deepdale, but there is no chance of him playing for North End again.

With January around the corner, Preston will hope to get Ripley moved out and off the books once and for all.
