Preston goalkeeper Daniel Iversen on radar for Denmark call-up

Preston North End goalkeeper Daniel Iversen could be set for a call-up to the Danish national team after talks with boss Kasper Hjulmand.

Denmark called up Preston striker Emil Riis for their game against Scotland in November, a reward for his superb form this season.

Riis not having to go through COVID protocols may have played a factor in that decision, but you could hardly say the striker didn’t deserve that call-up.

Denmark boss Hjulmand seemingly has one eye on Preston thanks to Riis, and goalkeeper Iversen is now on his radar too.

Iversen has told The Sportsman that he recently spoke to Hjulmand, indicating that he is on the radar for an international call-up.

Iversen did praise the competition but just wants to keep shining for Preston and whatever happens after that happens.

“I spoke to the coach of the Danish team [recently], it was nice to have a chat with him,” said Iversen. “There’s a lot of other great keepers, but all I can keep doing is playing well for Preston and see what happens.”

Iversen knows the main competition very well.

Kasper Schmeichel is Denmark’s number one goalkeeper, and his presence at Leicester City is part of the reason why Iversen is on loan at Preston from the Foxes right now.

Peter Vindahl Jensen has been faring well with AZ Alkmaar and finds himself in the squad, whilst Union Berlin’s Frederik Ronnow was in the last Denmark setup too.

Brentford’s Jonas Lossl is another option, as is AGF veteran Jesper Hansen.

On current form, Iversen can certainly stake a claim to be the best Danish goalkeeper outside of Schmeichel.

With ridiculous save after ridiculous save, Iversen absolutely deserves that international call-up – and if it comes soon, it may just show that Iversen can still represent his country whilst playing for Preston, strengthening North End’s hopes of a permanent deal.
