Preston signed one trialist over the summer in playmaker Jamie Thomas, but defender Tyler Williams hasn’t been quite so lucky.
North End took Thomas in from Bamber Bridge, and after impressing on trial, gave the non-league ace a one-year contract at Deepdale.
Thomas was joined in the pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic by defender Williams, who was on the bench at the DW Stadium.
Williams was released by Preston in 2020, and ended up with Championship club by signing for Middlesbrough.
Boro let Williams go this summer, and North End – fresh from establishing a reserve team for the first time in nine years – brought Williams back in on trial.
The defender could have been seen as a player to stash for reserve games in the hope of him emerging into the first team, but Preston have different plans.
Frankie McAvoy has confirmed today that Preston have decided not to give Williams a contract, as quoted by Lancs Live, meaning he is back on the hunt for a new club.
Let’s hope Williams gets fixed up somewhere else. Who knows, he could make Preston pay for twice snubbing him, with Tyrhys Dolan currently thriving after leaving Preston.
