Preston are hoping to bolster their attack with the signing of Gillingham striker Tom Eaves, at least according to Sky Sports.

With Seani Maguire injured and Lukas Nmecha still awaiting a first goal, it’s no great shock that North End want a new striker in January.

Alex Neil has wanted a target man since Jordan Hugill left for West Ham United in January, but couldn’t sign Barnsley’s Kieffer Moore in the summer.

Now, a new physical target man is being linked, with Gillingham’s Tom Eaves on the radar for Neil and co.

Eaves, 26, has smashed 14 goals in 26 games this season, building on a strong 18-goal campaign last term.

A huge striker at 6ft 5in tall, Eaves is strong and great in the air, whilst he has earned some comparisons to ex-Preston loanee Andy Carroll – and not just for his hairstyle.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Eaves could be a bargain signing in January, and we all know how Trevor Hemmings will like that.

Liverpool-born, Eaves may fancy a move back up north, and Blackburn Rovers are interested too, as are Scottish giants Rangers.

North End will hope to win the race for Eaves’ signature ahead of those clubs, and ease some of the burden on Nmecha and Louis Moult in attack.
