Preston North End will find out their opponents in the FA Cup third round tonight when the draw is made.

Last season’s third-round tie saw Preston take on Wycombe Wanderers. Sadly, it ended in 4-1 thrashing for North End, the second third-round exit in a row.

When does the draw take place?

The FA Cup third round draw will be held tonight (December 6th) at 7pm. Premier League and Championship teams join the competition tonight, adding to teams from non-league, League Two and League One.

What number are Preston North End in tonight’s FA Cup draw?

Preston North End are ball number 33.

Local derbies are the first thing to look out for; Blackburn Rovers are number 6, Blackpool number 7 and Burnley number 11.

Many would want a traditional ‘top six’ side, with Arsenal number two. Chelsea are number 13 and Tottenham Hotspur number 40.

The North West ‘big boys’ are Liverpool with ball 23 as well as Manchester City and Manchester United at numbers 25 and 26 respectively.

The FA Cup draw will be shown live on ITV4 in the UK. The draw takes place before the kick-off of Boreham Wood v St Albans.

When will the third round matches be played?

The third round matches take place in early January every year, and this year’s will be played on the weekend of Friday January 7th to Monday January 10th.

If Preston are involved in a big tie, the exact date could depend on TV coverage.

Replays are a possibility in round three, which would come later in January.

When was the last time Preston North End won the FA Cup?

It’s a long, long time ago but Preston have won the FA Cup twice in their history.

The first came in 1889, with Preston beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0.

Preston’s last FA Cup success came in 1938, defeating Huddersfield Town 1-0.

North End have also been FA Cup runners-up five times, the last of which came in 1964.
