Preston face tough decision on Liam Lindsay as North End reportedly consider summer deal

Preston will face decisions over five loan players this summer.

Daniel Iversen and Sepp van den Berg will of course be wanted back at Deepdale having starred since arriving in the January window.

Jayson Molumby and Anthony Gordon simply haven’t played enough to be considered for a return next season, so their time with Preston is over.

Liam Lindsay represents a tough decision. He came in from Stoke City on deadline day, giving Preston another left-footed centre back after Ben Davies moved on to Liverpool.

Lindsay has made 13 appearances for North End, scoring twice in 13 games as he found the net in the big Lancashire derby against Blackburn Rovers before bagging the winner against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Scot heads back to Stoke where he is unwanted, meaning his future is up in the air.

The Lancashire Evening Post now suggest that North End will indeed explore another potential deal for Lindsay, as a permanent move is being considered.

One source has indicated to us that Preston are though looking at other left-footed centre backs, meaning Lindsay is far from the only target.

Lindsay has fared well at Preston, but his role moving forward could be tricky.

Lindsay is a big presence at 6ft 4in tall, meaning he is best suited to a central role in North End’s three-man defence.

Patrick Bauer is returning this summer though, and with Paul Huntington also suited to that role, adding Lindsay permanently may not make all that much sense anymore.

Lindsay being left-footed could make him an option on that side of the back three, but he doesn’t quite have the pace to be dragged out into channels.

A move likely wouldn’t break the bank, but much will depend on the system McAvoy wants to play moving forward, and how Preston feel about Bauer and Huntington, who will be out of contract next summer.
