Jayden Stockley has completed a permanent transfer to Charlton Athletic, signing a three-year deal following his loan spell with the Addicks last season.

The 27-year-old scored eight goals in 22 games for them last season, and becomes Nigel Adkins first signing of the summer.

Nicknamed ‘The Headmaster’ by Charlton fans, Sotckley joined Preston in January 2019 following a great spell in League Two with Exeter City. Unfortunately he was never prolific for the Lilywhites, scoring nine goals in 71 appearances.

He did however give fans some memorable experiences, with key away goals against Middlesbrough, and Sheffield Wednesday. A volley out of nowhere at home to Birmingham City last season, and who can forget his display against Blackburn Rovers when he turned the game on its head after coming on as a first half substitute. Stockley’s display led to Preston coming from 2-0 down to win the game 3-2.

Clearly a very likeable guy among his teammates, Jayden moves on with everyone’s best wishes, and will no doubt have a strong season in League One.

Perhaps Preston didn’t play to his strengths, but they have managed to receive an undisclosed fee for him that will hopefully go towards a replacement.

Charlton fans will be delighted to see the striker return on a permanent deal, beating off competition from other League One clubs.

As for Preston fans, they wished Stockley well whilst reminiscing about his game-changing performance against bitter rivals Blackburn.
