Preston’s 2022-23 fixtures have now been confirmed with the new Championship season just around the corner.
Preston started last season with a 4-1 home thrashing at the hands of Hull City, a result that set the tone for Frankie McAvoy’s tenure.
This time, it’s a trip to Wigan Athletic for North End on the opening day of the season.
It’s worth remembering that the Championship season starts a week earlier than usual because of the World Cup in Qatar, so Preston head to Wigan on July 30th.
The season ends with a home game against Sunderland, meaning Alex Neil has a while to wait before returning to Deepdale.
The 2021-22 campaign ended with a big win over a North East side in Middlesbrough; let’s see if it can happen again versus Sunderland.
Here’s a deep dive into North End’s fixture list this season…
Preston’s first five games
North End open by facing promoted Wigan Athletic before heading back to Deepdale to host Hull City.
Preston then head on the road for a tricky trip to Luton Town, which was the venue of a terrible night for North End last season.
It’s then back to Deepdale for a home double-header against promoted Rotherham United and relegated Watford to see out Preston’s first five games.
Preston’s festive period
The festive schedule isn’t quite as hectic as usual but starts with Preston hosting Queens Park Rangers on December 17th.
North End then host Huddersfield Town on Boxing Day before travelling to West Bromwich Albion on December 29th.
New Year’s Day sees a trip to Stoke City, eerily similar to the January 3rd trip to the Potteries last season, giving Preston a tricky set of games.
When do Preston face Blackpool?
Preston faced Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on October 23rd last season and it’s the exact same weekend this term, this time on October 22nd.
The return fixture comes in early April as Blackpool visit Deepdale on April 1st.
These games are of course subject to change due to Sky’s television choices.
When do Preston face Blackburn?
It’s the same again for Preston’s trip to Blackburn; last year it was early December and that will be the case this season too.
Whilst it was December 4th last year, Preston head to Ewood Park on December 10th this season and will hope for a better result than the 1-0 loss last term.
That will be Preston’s first game back from the break for the World Cup between November and December.
We’re starting to think that the EFL have hit copy and paste on last season’s fixture list as Preston’s penultimate home game will be against Rovers – just as it was last season!
That game is currently scheduled for Saturday April 22nd.
When do Preston face Burnley?
Burnley’s relegation means they will face Preston in a league game for the first time since 2011.
The first meeting between the two sides comes on September 13th, which will be a Tuesday night.
Preston head to Turf Moor on February 11th, the first league visit there since the torrid 4-3 defeat in 2010.
