Preston North End are likely to consider Motherwell boss Graham Alexander as a possible replacement for Frankie McAvoy.
That’s according to The Scottish Sun, who claim that Alexander is expected to be in the running for the Preston job.
Preston parted company with Frankie McAvoy on Monday night and are chasing a swift appointment.
The expectation is that Preston’s next manager will be in place before this weekend’s game against Barnsley.
A number of names have been floated, with St Johnstone’s Callum Davidson one name in the frame.
North End could look elsewhere in Scotland though with Motherwell boss Alexander a possibility.
Alexander, 50, was a hero at Preston in his playing days. With more than 400 appearances for North End, Alexander became a Deepdale favourite.
Alexander’s final ever kick as a professional being a goal at Deepdale will live long in the memory of Preston supporters everywhere.
North End did allow Alexander to have a caretaker spell in charge in 2011 alongside David Unsworth, but they didn’t get the job.

Alexander largely did great work at Fleetwood Town, Scunthorpe United and Salford City, managing over 100 games with each.
His win rates improved in each job, from 38% to 46% and then 48%.
In January of this year, Alexander headed up to Scotland to replace Stephen Robinson – another former Preston player.
Alexander has won 20 games in 43 at Motherwell, particularly earning praise for his work rejuvenating Tony Watt up front.
Alexander’s connection with Preston fans is huge here, but we would assume he is a backup target at this stage.
