The English transfer window opened today, and Preston should be looking to bring in some new signings.

North End’s late play-off push came up short, and Alex Neil now needs to ruthless with his squad. A number of positions need some attention, and goalkeeper may just be one of them.

It’s far, far too early to write off Connor Ripley. The January signing may have conceded six goals in his only two appearances for North End, but he’s far from done at Deepdale.

Declan Rudd improved in 2019, but may still be on the chopping block. With one year left on his deal, his Preston career is at something of a crossroads. Is he worth handing a new deal to? Probably not, but he’s also good enough to want a fee for, meaning he could be sold this summer.

That may lead North End back into the market for another goalkeeper, and we understand that Manchester City youngster Aro Muric is one name being considered.

Muric, 20, has spent the season as City’s second-choice goalkeeper following Claudio Bravo’s injury. He was a regular in their Carabao Cup run, keeping clean sheets in four of his five games.

Additionally, Muric has three senior caps for Kosovo. Born in Switzerland, Muric actually played for Montenegro as a youngster, but switched his international allegiance in 2018.

The Sun reported just days ago that City are keen to loan Muric out, after being forced to cut his NAC Breda spell short. With Bravo coming back to fitness, Muric would be back to third-choice at the Etihad Stadium.

Standing at 6ft 6in tall, Muric is an imposing figure between the sticks, and landing a giant goalkeeper to command the area may be vital for Ben Davies and Jordan Storey.

Now, we know what you’re thinking. This doesn’t fit with Alex Neil’s hopes of adding experience to the side though. That’s true, but it smacks of a deal which worked so well for Sheffield United, as Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson was imperious between the sticks in their promotion campaign.

North End may hope that Muric is similar, and with strong ties to City after Lukas Nmecha’s loan, we believe he’s just one name being considered.
