Ryan Lowe uses just one word to describe Liam Lindsay’s display for Preston last night

Preston boss Ryan Lowe has paid tribute to defender Liam Lindsay after a ‘terrific’ performance against Millwall on Tuesday night.

North End headed down to South London in search of all three points having turned in big displays in their last two midweek games.

After a dramatic comeback against Sheffield United and a superb win over West Bromwich Albion, this one was a more low-key affair.

Preston played out a 0-0 draw with Millwall, but will be kicking themselves having missed a golden opportunity in the second half.

Andrew Hughes was dragged down inside the penalty area, gifting North End a spot kick – but Ben Whiteman stepped up and hit the post.

On another day, that goes in and Preston claim three points – but it just wasn’t to be this time for North End.

Lowe made a surprise change to his lineup, leaving Patrick Bauer on the bench in favour of Liam Lindsay.

Bauer has been a mainstay in the Preston side this season and under Lowe, but he was rested on Tuesday.

That gave Lindsay a chance to shine, with the Scot not even playing a minute under Lowe before the trip to Millwall.

Lindsay hasn’t enjoyed a great season, though he did perform admirably against Fulham goal machine Alexander Mitrovic in November.

Lindsay turned in a strong display against Millwall, racking up one tackle, two interceptions, three clearances and two aerial duels won as Preston kept a clean sheet.

Lowe has now told Preston’s official website that he felt Lindsay was ‘terrific’, praising him for his display having stepped in for Bauer – and his display may just leave Lowe with a dilemma moving forward.

“First and foremost, Ryan [Ledson] and Greg [Cunningham] needed an opportunity again to showcase what they could do – Saturday wasn’t their day,” said Lowe.

“We felt Browney was a little bit tired and needed that extra bit of time off in terms of the games going thick and fast, there’s been a lot of games, and Patrick’s the same. So we felt that we should make them changes and bring Liam Lindsay in, who I felt was terrific, Ali McCann again ran his socks off and obviously changing Cam for Ched,” he added.
