Report shares Liverpool plans to sell former Preston North End star Ben Davies

Preston sold Ben Davies to Liverpool last year but the defender is now available for transfer this summer as the Reds prepare to sell.

North End saw Davies emerge from the youth ranks and become a star at Deepdale.

Many of us will remember Davies being torn apart as a left back against Sheffield United wide man Jamal Campbell-Ryce in 2014.

Yet come 2017, Davies became an exceptional left-sided centre back under the tutelage of Alex Neil.

Elegant on the ball and a great reader of the game, Davies looked every bit a Premier League defender.

That move did finally come in January 2021 – but few could have expected it.

Preston sold Ben Davies to Liverpool

Liverpool pounced to sign Davies on deadline day in the winter transfer window last year.

The Reds had a defensive injury crisis and snapped up Davies in a cut-price deal.

Preston didn’t bring in much money for Davies as he was inside the final six months of his contract, but did secure a sell-on clause and Sepp van den Berg on loan.

Davies seemed like an opportunistic signing for Liverpool; a player they could bring in for limited expense and probably make a profit on down the line.

Davies has never made a first-team appearance for Liverpool though and spent this past season on loan at Sheffield United.

The 26-year-old had his ups and downs with the Blades and now heads back to Anfield with his future in doubt.

The Liverpool Echo report that Davies will now be made available this summer with Liverpool seeking to sell.

After a mixed season at Sheffield United, we would imagine that Davies is looking at a Championship rather than Premier League move this summer.

We would absolutely love to see Davies back at Preston – just imagine him on the left of Ryan Lowe’s three-man defence – but a deal may be beyond North End this summer.
