Preston took on Liverpool in the Lancashire Senior Cup on Tuesday afternoon and St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson came along to watch the game.

North End were hoping to advance into the third round of the competition as they welcomed Liverpool to the club’s Euxton training ground.

However, Liverpool ran out comfortable winners with Fidel O’Rourke, Tom Clayton and Jack Bearne on the scoresheet for the Reds.

Preston have released a video showing highlights of the game and made a point of showing Callum Davidson on the sideline watching on.

Davidson is of course a familiar face to Preston fans having been a North End favourite in his playing days.

Currently managing St Johnstone, Davidson won a domestic cup double in Scotland last season but faces a relegation battle this term.

Losing Ali McCann to Preston was a huge blow, but Davidson still found himself linked with the Preston job come December.

That job ended up going to Ryan Lowe as Frankie McAvoy departed North End.

Davidson came all the way down from Scotland to watch Tuesday’s game, likely seeing if there could be any potential signings for his St Johnstone side.

Preston’s Connor Ripley and Paul Huntington both featured but are out of contract this summer whilst Matthew Olosunde is out of favour.

Young talents Josh Seary, Mikey O’Neill, Noah Mawene and Jacob Slater are all highly-regarded and could be available for loan, even if the Scottish Premiership is a big jump at this stage for them.

Davidson may just have been looking at Liverpool’s young players, but either way it’s great to see the former North End left back back in Lancashire watching Preston.
