Preston North End missed out on signing Andi Zeqiri in August – and now he’s bagging goals against Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
PNE were desperate for an attacking signing before the end of the transfer window.
A number of options faded away, such as Liam Delap and Abdallah Sima before Josh Murphy arrived on loan from Cardiff City.
North End also looked into signing Zeqiri, who was available to loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Lancashire Evening Post reported that Zeqiri chose a move to Germany with Augsburg instead of heading to Lancashire.
PNE fans may not be all that familiar with Zeqiri. The Swiss striker joined Brighton from Lausanne in 2020, having smashed 22 goals in the 2019-20 season.
Zeqiri only played nine Premier League games last season but does have three caps for Switzerland.
So how is Zeqiri faring at Augsburg?
Well he got off the mark this past weekend, scoring his first Augsburg goal away at Borussia Dortmund.
Zeqiri scored a close-range goal as he reacted quickly to a loose ball to fire in an equaliser.
Augsburg ended up losing 2-1, but Zeqiri will never forget scoring at Signal Iduna Park.
Given that this is the stage he now has, surely few can really argue with Zeqiri’s decision to join Augsburg over PNE.
