Burnley have been relegated and will join Preston in the Championship – which means all four major Lancashire clubs are in the same division for the first time since 1961.
The Premier League final day brought plenty of drama as Manchester City came from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2.
That sent the Premier League title to the Etihad Stadium despite Liverpool beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 at Anfield.
There was little drama in the top four race with Tottenham Hotspur hammering Norwich City whilst Leeds United secured their safety at the bottom.
A 2-1 win at Brentford kept Leeds up at the expense of Burnley, who lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle United.
Burnley have been relegated
The Clarets went into the final game of the season level on points with Leeds but with a much better goal difference.
Callum Wilson’s brace had Burnley on the brink and whilst Maxwell Cornet pulled one back, it wasn’t enough to keep Burnley up.
Add in that Leeds won anyway and a point wouldn’t have been enough for Burnley.
The focus will now be on finding a permanent manager to replace Sean Dyche as Burnley face up to life back in the Championship for the first time in six years.
Burnley’s relegation provides something truly rare though.

The Clarets now join Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Preston North End in the same division for the first time in more than 60 years.
The last time all four of those Lancashire clubs were in the same division was way back in the 1960-61 season.
Burnley finished fourth in the First Division that year with Blackburn in eighth and Blackpool 20th.
Preston were relegated in that season, their first without Sir Tom Finney, and the four clubs have never reconvened since.
After so long apart, we will now have plenty of Lancashire derbies to look forward to next season – and who knows how long this will now last after 61 years of the quartet moving between the division but never finding themselves all together.
