Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe has heaped praise on new signing Cameron Archer after his first start for the club on Saturday afternoon.

Archer made a stunning start to life at Preston, scoring against West Bromwich Albion on his debut in midweek.

Archer had only joined on loan from Aston Villa on Monday, but come Wednesday night he was a new Preston hero.

Lowe decided to throw Archer into the starting XI against Bristol City, pairing him up with Emil Riis in attack.

North End couldn’t quite get going in the first half and were 1-0 down at the break, but Archer played a role in the fightback.

Dropping deep, Archer picked up the ball in the left channel and cut inside to fire a ferocious shot at goal.

Max O’Leary couldn’t hold onto it, and Emil Riis swooped in to equalise – long before his outstanding last-gasp goal to clinch a 2-2 draw.

Archer was off the pitch at the time having been substituted in favour of Ched Evans with just over 10 minutes to play.

Archer wasn’t able to make it two goals in two games for Preston, but he still showed very promising signs for North End.

Boss Lowe spoke about Archer’s performance on iFollow, praising his ‘fantastic’ display despite Preston struggling to play to his strengths in the first half.

Lowe believes Archer will only get better and better in a Preston shirt, as he is currently having to learn how to play in this North End side.

“Fantastic,” said Lowe. “He was probably trying a little bit too hard to get another goal! He’s only had a few training with us, yesterday was limited as well so he’s learning on a daily basis – he’ll just get better in terms of our style, he’s just got to adapt, it’s a little bit different to how they play at Villa.”

“What we’ve got to do is make sure we get him in the right areas, in the first half we didn’t get him in the right areas, we didn’t slide many balls down the sides of them. Fantastic performance, really pleased for him, the more games he plays, the better he will be,” he added.
