Preston North End take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup later this month and will hope to have Sepp van Den Berg available for the game.

After beating Mansfield Town, Morecambe and Cheltenham Town in the first three rounds, PNE landed a big tie in the last 16.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side travel to Deepdale later this month and will be looking to avoid a shock exit.

A number of players have turned out for both clubs over the years.

Mark Lawrenson, Neil Mellor and Ben Davies spring to mind, but none have experienced Sepp van den Berg’s situation.

Van den Berg talks held between PNE and Liverpool

Dutch defender Van den Berg joined PNE on deadline day in February. As part of Davies joining Liverpool, Van den Berg spent the second half of last season with North End.

After shining in that loan spell, PNE secured Van den Berg for another year, extending his loan deal.

Yet with Liverpool now coming to Deepdale, Van den Berg’s participation is in question.

As Liverpool are Van den Berg’s parent club, PNE must now ask for permission to play him against the Reds.

North End have confirmed on the club’s official website that talks have been held with Liverpool to try and thrash out an agreement.

The ball is in Liverpool’s court now, with PNE no doubt hoping for a positive answer over the international break.
