Beginning of the end for 28-year-old at Preston North End

Preston North End actually announced an outgoing transfer on Saturday, which may have flown a little under the radar due to to the game against Derby County.

North End played out a 0-0 draw at Deepdale, once again failing to win in the Championship.

Just 90 minutes before kick off, Preston confirmed that goalkeeper Connor Ripley has left the club.

Ripley has joined Salford City on an emergency loan deal, just for a week to begin with.

Ripley immediately started against Hartlepool on Saturday, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory.

An injury to Tom King meant Salford needed a short-term solution between the sticks, and Ripley has made the move.

Preston struck the agreement with Gary Neville’s men without many qualms; Ripley isn’t in North End’s Championship squad right now.

The 28-year-old hasn’t even played a competitive game for North End since January of this year.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, this will ultimately be the beginning of the end for Ripley.

Ripley will not earn a new deal, and may be looking to use this week to impress Salford and set up a future move.

Even if Salford don’t want Ripley long-term, the former Middlesbrough man will not be saving his Preston career and will be on the move in 2022.
