Preston North End playmaker Daniel Johnson has been hailed by pundit Andy Hinchcliffe after his ‘sublime’ assist against Blackburn Rovers.

PNE were simply sensational against Rovers on Saturday afternoon, claiming a thumping 4-1 win.

This was the best performance of the Ryan Lowe era and North End just blew their Lancashire rivals away.

The travelling PNE fans were already in dreamland at 3-1 up but it got even better mere seconds after Ched Evans found the net for the second time.

Alvaro Fernandez made a lung-busting run up the left flank to pick up possession from Ben Woodburn.

Fernandez fizzed a cutback to Daniel Johnson, who was running onto the ball perfectly for a left-footed strike.

Yet whilst the Rovers defence were expecting Johnson to fire an effort at goal, the Jamaican had other ideas.

Johnson instead back-heeled the ball, seemingly having eyes in the back of his head to see Ben Whiteman coming up to join the attack.

Whiteman ran onto the ball and fired it home, giving PNE a 4-1 lead in the snow at Ewood Park.

It’s an assist that will live long in the memory for North End fans and, honestly, I’ve rewatched it so many times already.

This is the kind of brilliance we know Johnson can provide, even if we haven’t seen as much of it as hoped this season.

Johnson earned huge praise from pundit Andy Hinchcliffe after that assist, with the former Everton defender speaking on Sky Sports.

Hinchcliffe raved about Johnson’s touch and awareness, hailing his tee-up for Whiteman as ‘sublime’.

“The awareness and the touch from Daniel Johnson is sublime, it really is,” said Hinchcliffe. “No wonder they’re celebrating with him!” he added.

Johnson finds himself out of contract at the end of the season and if he can produce a few more assists like that, a new deal will be on the table before you know it.
