Fulham have confirmed the departure of midfielder Josh Onomah amid claims Preston North End want to sign him.

Rumours over the last few days have suggested that Onomah could rip up the final six months of his Fulham deal in order to move on.

The Premier League club have now confirmed that a mutual termination of Onomah’s contract has been agreed.

Onomah now becomes a free agent, which means he can actually join a new club even beyond tonight’s transfer deadline.

The news will be of interest to PNE, who are allegedly interested in signing Onomah.

Football Insider claimed this morning that Onomah is in ‘advanced talks’ to sign for PNE.

The report noted that North End are ‘confident’ of signing Onomah as Ryan Lowe chases more creativity in the final third.

That story has excited PNE fans today but there may be a twist in the tale yet.

The Athletic report that six clubs are now trying to sign Onomah on a free transfer, though none of the teams are named.

PNE may well be one of them but rising interest from elsewhere is a concern.

It’s fair to say that North End fans rarely have belief that the club can fend off Championship rivals to secure signings.

That goes for Onomah, who is bound to have plenty of suitors now his Fulham contract has been ripped up.

Onomah has sacrificed a big chunk of cash to get out of Fulham and now seems desperate to get back playing regularly.

The 25-year-old would surely become a key player if he makes the move to Deepdale and that’s something Onomah should consider after playing just 14 minutes of league action this season.
